I added this new Aluminum Radiator (Summit #SUM-380425) and Black Magic(universal)Fan. This should keep it cool. ~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~
5/03 I got a set of Edelbrock Victor jr. heads and Scorpion 1.6 roller rockers to help save weight, and make MORE POWER! These are some really nice looking heads with 60cc chambers and 2.05/1.60 swirl polished ,taper stem valves, and 210cc intake ports,with75cc exhaust ports,That are raised 0.150. I`ll also be using Cometic M.L.S. (multi layer steel ) 0.025 head gaskets. These heads are really too much for my 308. But I plan to build a 393 or 408 windsor stroker motor later ,and for that they will be perfect.
10/03 I replaced the Accel dual point distributor with a Mallory Unilite breakerless unit, and have been working on getting the carbs set up just right .The car runs well considering it only has 9.3 to 1 compression with the new heads. I`m about to start working on the suspension in an attempt to get a little more traction. The car spins really badly with the street tires on it and I think it needs to transfer weight a little better,so I`ll be swapping the front coil springs for a set of 6 cyl. Maverick springs. .
12/03 I replaced the rear leaf springs with a set from a `72 four door V-8 Maverick I bought for parts, I also installed a set of polygraphite bushings from Energy Suspension .
01/04 Added a set of Rancho 9000 , Five way adjustable rear shocks. They can be adjusted by simply turning a nob on the bottom of the shock . They sould make setting up the suspension at the track a little easier.
02/04 My wife got me a MSD digital 6 plus Igniton box for Christmas (ain`t she cool ?) and I finally got around to installing it along with a Holley Laser shot coil. The box has Start retard, two step rev limiter ,boost / nitrous retard, and of coarse multiple spark discharge.
06/04 Went to Fun Ford Weekend in Atlanta and had a great time with all my freinds from the Maverick.to.com message board.( A great bunch of people!)
10/04 I took the car on an interstate trip to a cruise-in. The trip was 102 miles and the car got 14.1 mpg!
06/05 Replaced the antique Ansen traction bars with a set of South Side Lift bars. You can feel the car trying to plant the rear tires alot better now...but it still spins ALOT. 10/05 I took the car to the track just for fun to see what kind of times it would run on the worn out street tires. My best time was a 12.454 @ 106.66 . My 60 ft. time was1.871. The car started spinning the tires in second gear and I had to "feather" the throttle to hook it back up. It was still fun taking it down the Track!
I bought a set of 26x 8 M/T et drag slicks on 15x8 Weld wheels. Went to the Track and ran a 7.79 @ 89.49 mph in the1/8th ,and a 12.20 @ 112.35 mph in the quarter.
I think it still has some more in it with some tuneing.
